UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd are scheduled to arrive in Copenhagen today. Brown is arriving two days ahead of schedule to highlight the urgency of a global climate pact. There are high hopes that the two world leaders will be helpful in loosening the deadlock that has formed during negotiations prior to their arrival.
It's no secret that Copenhagen has been heating up: China has maintained a stubborn hold on its position; Africa delegates walked out on conversations for five hours; and Canada is in the spotlight for its minimal commitment to making changes.
According to Times Online, "Many of the 120 national leaders due to attend the summit have also brought forward their arrival dates and about 20 will be arriving on Wednesday morning."
The presence of world leaders is a crucial step in moving the process forward.
