James Murdoch: Clean Energy is a Conservative Cause

James Murdoch today called upon the right to embrace clean energy as a conservative cause in a stirring and surprising Washington Post Op-Ed.  I'm not typically one to stand behind Rupert's son or the News Corporation empire, but I'm thrilled to see that the young Murdoch is taking a bold stance in support of a clean energy future, and I think he does a fantastic job highlighting why a green shift should appeal to conservatives.

We may not entirely agree on how to get there, but if we can at least have some bipartisan discussion with similar goals in mind, we can hopefully move forward, rather than hearing "no" from both sides. James points out several principals that should appeal to conservatives, including national security, new employment, cleaner and healthier communities, and of course, competition rather than regulation.

Again, I don't agree with all of his suggestions, but it's a great start.  He even pushes aside the hoopla over "ClimateGate", to highlight the overall importance of clean energy and environmental protection:

You do not need to believe that all climate science is settled or every prediction or model is perfect to understand the benefits of limiting pollution and transforming our energy policies -- as a gradually declining cap on carbon pollution would do. This is the moment to champion policies that yield new industries, healthy competition, cleaner air and water, freedom from petroleum politics and reduced costs for businesses.

I look forward to hearing from more conservative voices that are brave enough to reach across the aisle and acknowledge that the time has come to work together to create a clean energy economy.  Use the action link below to find out what you can do to get involved with a clean energy future.
